23.
Weeks later, Brady looked back on that morning as the day Blue's real recovery began. He didn't know how much to credit the new therapist and how much to credit Blue's sudden inspiration to heal, but miraculous wasn't too strong a word. Blue traded group therapy for anger management classes and started learning karate to give his frustration a productive outlet.
Sessions with Dr. Sandra Geist several times a week left Blue less hostile and annoyed. The small group of friends he'd met through Scoob made him less isolated. Thanks to the musicians’ influence, Blue had settled into his obsession with the guitar and graduated from acoustic to electric.
Brady took a break from work and walked downstairs to Blue's alcove. His budding guitarist stood in jeans and a black t-shirt, looking every inch the rock star. The guitar hung low enough on his body to act as an oversize athletic cup and dark hair dangled in his face. The short-sleeve T-shirts were also new. Instead of using long sleeves to hide the scars on his wrists, he covered them with a variety of wide leather bracelets and sweatbands. Karate had added definition to his arms and shoulders creating an inviting ripple of muscle when he played.
"How's it going?" Brady asked.
"Fine."
Blue kept playing, fingers moving along the strings, producing a faint version of what would have screamed through the room had he borrowed an amplifier to go with the guitar. Brady was grateful for its absence.
"It sounds pretty good," he said.
"Only because I'm not plugged in. It sounds like shit in the studio. My fingering is sloppy."
He smiled because he couldn't help it. Everything was a double entendre since the conversation that confirmed they both wanted the same thing.
"Is that something I can help with? You know, fingering."
"I don't know. Drop your pants and let's find out," Blue said, straight-faced, eyes still on his guitar.
Teasing was a regular part of their conversation, and Blue didn't play fair. He loved that about him. Being in better control of his emotions hadn't dimmed the fire. Blue was still demanding, sarcastic, and damn hot in that outfit. Brady refused to wonder how all of it would look in his bed the first time they had sex. The image always drove him to the shower for a blast of cold water.
"You can't handle that yet," Brady said and dropped into one of the chairs against the wall.
"There you go again. Telling me what I can't handle. You're an opinionated son of a bitch, you know that?" Blue continued to play.
"Then prove me wrong, cub."
"You'll get yours one day, Poppy. Don't worry."
"So you keep saying."
They had settled into terms of affection that didn't yet fit their relationship, part of their game of taunts and innuendo. Brady was the daddy. Blue was his cub even if the hottest thing he’d done so far was kiss Blue’s cheek.
Blue didn’t fit the typical description of a young bear but then the nickname didn’t refer to his body type. Nearly two
